Mathews Brothers named Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce
2007 Business of the Year
(11/5/07) - Mathews Brothers has been chosen as this years recipient of the Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce 2007 Business of the Year for their outstanding economic development, community involvement, environmental policies and other qualities within Waldo County and the state of Maine. “This is an amazing award for us in light of the difficult housing market,” said Mathews Brothers President, Scott Hawthorne. “However, it revolves so tightly with our company vision and mission statement that it’s almost scary!”
The Chamber promotes business and economic growth in the “Heart of Coastal Maine” for
the benefit of members and their customers and clients. Founded in 1936, the Chamber is a
non-profit organization consisting of a Board of Directors, Executive Director, Director of
Sales & Marketing and numerous volunteer committees working to assist area businesses and
a growing membership. “Mathews Brothers is a very special and dynamic company in our community,” stated current Board Member Mary Mortier. “They are a real corporate citizen, making our communities better places to live and work.” On Saturday, November 17, the Chamber will be presenting the award at the annual meeting and awards dinner at the Waldo County Shrine Club in Belfast.
The criterion for annual competition recognizes the achievements companies and organizations provide to the community in a number of categories. “It is truly an honor to win an award that is community-oriented. We have a great team who puts their hearts into everything they do and this is a great compliment for them,” said Scott. “With over 145 employees between our plant and three local market divisions, we wouldn’t be here without them.”
Mathews Brothers manufacturing plant in Belfast uses state of the art equipment and materials to build traditional wood, vinyl, and contemporary composite windows and doors. They’ve been making window products in New England since 1854. A separate local market division provides windows, doors, and kitchens to professionals, homeowners, and contractors throughout the Midcoast region.
