While the U-factor is used to express the insulation value of windows, R-value is used for insulation in most other parts of the building envelope (walls, floors, roofs). To compare R-value & U-factor, divide 1 by the U-factor number.
Example: a .20 U-factor equals a 5 R-value (1/.20 = 5).

High Performance Windows: Defined
High Performance Windows are highly insulating windows with a whole-window R-value of 5 (a U-factor of around 0.2) are the top tier of energy-efficient windows for cold and mixed climates available today (an R-value or a U-factor is the measurement of heat loss through a window).
Energy Savings
In cold and mixed climates, R5 windows save considerably more energy than conventional windows and can be cost effective when produced in volume.
